However, EVs and Hybrids use rare earth materials scarcer than oil and mainly found in China. EVs are definitely not ready for prime time. Oil and coal are known quantities and the US is rich enough in both of these materials for quite some time. True enough, we import too much foreign oil. But the alternatives aren't any prettier at this point in time.

Forcing a move to alternative energy when it doesn't make economic sense, does not make sense to me.

And that cost will spread into other areas. We need to use all sorts of fuel sources and oil will be a big player as will coal for a number of years (probably decades).
