This will of course cause gasoline prices to rise. The same issue as if the Keystone XL pipeline is built. It will be the same as taking refinery capacity offline since the refined products will not be sold in the United States.

To the "refiners at work manipulating prices higher" crowd: Do you have the first clue as to what it takes to run and operate a refinery? If not, sit down and drink a huge cup of STFU. If you do, then why are you complaining about it???
It's really very simple - Refineries are marvelous, complex, but also dangerous feats of engineering. They require annual maintenance in order for them to operate at peak efficiency, and they also cannot run at balls-to-the-wall 100% capacity.
Here's a question to the conspiracy theorists: Would you rather refiners do annual maintenance in Jan/Feb/Mar, when gas consumption is traditionally lowest for the year, or in June/July/August, in the middle of summer when gas consumption is at its highest? Oh, before answering, don't forget that a hurricane could take a third of our total refining capacity offline if it were to hit within 200 miles of the Houston/Galveston area.

Time for feds to act on these refineries ... Some of the maintenance schedules are highly doubtful.

Can not help but think this refinery thing is not part of a larger strategy to keep pricing higher.

The refineries have had quite a bit to do with the rising prices. Maybe we should see them fall just a little now.

Up the prices gooooooooooooo. Big Oil Manipilation, break up the monopoly and create competition between the oil co's, prices will drop then.

There seems to be a disconnect between the price at the pump and inventories.

The production might have dropped after the filled up every tank they could find and have plenty of product to carry them through the maintenance cycle while claiming they need to raise the price as they are not producing. Anyway that is my opinion and they can counter it but I think that the thinking of gouging the American public and anyone else they can get their grubby hooks into.

Is this really why the prices are up at the pumps? I don't believe this is the major reason...
