Gasoline pump prices continue to slide

Associated Press -- Gasoline pump prices continued to fall on Monday, offering a bright spot for drivers watching their wallets in the uncertain economy.

The average retail price for a gallon of unleaded regular was $2.708 a gallon Monday, according to AAA, Wright Express and Oil Price Information Service. It has dropped about 4.2 cents in the past week but is around 8.1 cents more than a year ago.

With the summer driving season about to end, experts predict pump prices will drop anywhere from a dime to a quarter a gallon in the weeks ahead.

"I don't think there's going to be a lot of discretionary driving because basically money is still tight for a lot of people," Tradition Energy analyst Gene McGillian said.

In robust economic times, pump prices don't typically begin to fall until after Labor D

No, retail gas prices are just beginning to "slide." When they fall below $2.00/gallon, then we can talk about a "slide."

I happen to agree with Ncomet1. It sure does take it's sweet time going down but when it goes up it goes up by .10cents per gallon.

In the last week and a half gasoline future contracts have dropped from 2.08 to 1.88 per gallon as of the end of trading today.

Based on this drop in the price per gallon in future contracts, the retail price of gasoline should continue its current downward slide.

Thank you Lord.

It only dropped a few cents at the pumps. Still $2.57 to $2.77 per gallon for regular in our area. It trickles down a few cents every now and then. When it goes up, it jumps .10 to .25 cents at a time.

Yeah but what about the prices of gas?

See, because it looks like they're talking about the price of the pump itself... 'pump price' not 'gas prices'
